July 15th, 2011  |  Published in Inrodution

Cryptologic recently released a new online slot game entitled “The Flash Velocity.” The game is the fifth release in the branded DC Comics super hero slot series. The Flash possesses the power of speed that can be found in the game. For instance, the Speedster Wilds function shows The Flash darting across the reels, randomly changing the icons to wild which enhances the payouts. The game is a 50 payline slot game with four rows of characters.

The Flash Symbol

The characters on the reels are from series with The Flash representing the wild symbol which pays out the highest jackpot of 10,000 coins. The animation of hero involves tripled payouts. The scatter and bonus symbol are represented by a flash of lightning. If five of these icons appear on the reels, the player is awarded a scatter payout of 100 coins.

Three Villains

The game also features three Villains: Captain Cold, Mirror Master and Gorilla Grodd. Each villain exhibits super powers through the animations. Captain Cold freezes opponents, Mirror Master generates many mirror images of himself and Gorilla Grodd ferociously taunts his opponents. Other important symbols include a stopwatch, The Flash logo and his shoes. Additionally, high value symbols appear and are crafted to appear as if they are moving quickly.

Bonus Bet Feature

Since the game is a Cryptologic DC Comics branded game, the Bonus Bet feature is available. To activate this function, the player must enable all 50 paylines while wagering an extra 10 coins. This increases the payout multiplier to five times and gives players’ access to the Rogues Feature.

Two New X-Men Slot Games to Entice First Class X-Men Fans

June 16th, 2011  |  Published in Gambling Games

Recently released, X-Men: First Class was an immediate hit. The movie is scheduled to be released in several other countries in the middle of June 2011. X-Men: First Class is the prequel to the previously released X-Men movies. As a result, two Marvel X-Men branded online slot games have been released by Cryptologic and Playtech, two leading gaming software developers.

Lack of X-Men Promotion

Despite the release of their respective slot games, no casino powered by either software developer has announced an X-Men promotion.

Cryptologic X-Men Slot

The first to be released was the Cryptologic X-Men slot. The symbols consist mostly of characters from X-Men Legend. These include, Xavier, Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Night Crawler, Gambit and Rogue. The highlight of the game is the bonus game which is a battle between the selected superhero and a villain. The character whose life meter is depleted first loses.

If the super hero loses, the player receives a consolation prize equal to the bet that activated the game. If the super hero wins, the player will receive the award equivalent to the amount of life left on the meter. The game is networked into the Marvel Slots progressive jackpot. Typically the higher the wagers the better chance of hitting. The Cryptologic version of X-Men is available at InterCasino and VIP Casino.

Playtech X-Men Slot

The Playtech variant of X-Men is a much more updated version of the series. The game features the same characters on the reels as the Cryptologic version only with much better animation. Each of the characters displays their super powers. Also, the X feature pays five times the total bet when super hero icons occupy all five positions on reels 2-4 when forming an X.

Free Spins Round

The free spins feature boasts a Heroes mode and Villains mode. The game begins in Heroes mode but when Magneto is displayed on the third reel, the game switches to Villains mode. However, when Xavier appears on the third reels it switches back to Heroes mode. The Playtech version is linked to the four-level Marvel Mystery Jackpot.

Both games are extremely exciting and accurate to the movie series. However, the updated Playtech version is more fun, with better payouts and graphics. Therefore, if the choice must be made to select between the two, choose the Playtech version.

A Lull in Game Development for May 2011

June 7th, 2011  |  Published in Casino News

Experts have noticed a lull in online gaming software development during the month of May 2011. As the close of the month approaches, the number of new games released has been below the average compared with previous years. It has not yet been revealed whether this is a coincidence or the calm before the storm.

In the past, Microgaming has been the first provider to release new games each month. These games are typically launched toward the end of the first week or beginning of the second week. Also, new games are usually announced a month before release. Unfortunately there were no new announcements in April for May.

This is likely due to the Grand Slam of Slot II Tournament, hosted by Microgaming. The company does not want to divert attention away from the competition. Since the tournament ends in at the beginning of June, there may not be any additional slot games released for that month either.

Cryptologic has also not released any new games. However, the company has not gone live with any new slots for the past six months on account of its current financial rough patch. Cryptologic is beginning to turn around its finances as is evident by the announcement of a new super hero slot game with a time period that is to be determined.

Vegas Technology

On the other hand, Vegas Technology has been releasing games at a rate of one per month. The games usually go live in the third or fourth week of each month without an announcement. Therefore, it is unlikely the developer will skip a month for no reason so a game should be released soon.

Rival Gaming

Additionally, Rival Gaming has not yet released any games in May but March and April had several new games. In March, Rival Gaming released four new additions to their 3D series and April saw three new video slot games. Perhaps the company has decided to take a month off with releases and begin fresh in June.

Finally, WagerWorks is known to release one game per month but has been known to skip months. The developer’s last release was March 2011. Therefore, a new game should be in the works. WagerWorks has a reputation for releasing high quality games and is not known for quantity. With a lull in the action for May, it is likely June will bring many new games.

A Review of Winners at Table Games Progressive Jackpots

June 6th, 2011  |  Published in Inrodution

Major hits on progressive jackpots at online gaming sites are always a big topic for discussion. However, it is rare to hear about progressive jackpot hits at table games and video poker. This is primarily because the hits are not as large or as glamorous as slot machines. Several table game progressive jackpots were recently hit.

Playtech Progressive Blackjack Jackpot

The most recent win of a progressive jackpot game occurred at an online game of Blackjack through a Playtech-powered casino. The hit occurred on May 22nd, 2011 for a total of $76, 787 and was the largest hit in six months. The player hit the progressive jackpot by being dealt four aces of the same suit. Also, to activate the jackpot, a side bet was required. The Playtech Progressive Blackjack is available at Casino Tropez and Omni Casino.

Vegas Technology Progressive Blackjack

An identical Progressive Blackjack is also provided by Vegas Technology. Similar to Playtech, the jackpot is hit when a player is dealt four aces of the same suit. A hit on this game also recently occurred on May 18th for $160,059. The Vegas Technology Progressive Blackjack is only available at Online Vegas Casino and Go Casino.

Let’em Ride Progressive Jackpot

Bodog online casino is powered by Realtime Gaming but the progressive jackpots are not linked into the Realtime Gaming Network. Instead, the casino has a stand-alone progressive jackpot. On May 20th, the Let’em Ride progressive was hit for the amount of $104, 397. Around the same time, the Realtime Gaming Network Let’em Ride progressive jackpot was hit for $172, 887.

Megajacks Jackpot

Megajacks, a popular video poker online game from Playtech, was also recently hit numerous times. Megajacks utilizes the Jacks or Better payout table which resulted in the jackpot being hit numerous times between $910 and $3,551. The jackpot is activated when a player draws a royal flush with all five coins wagered.

The Growth of the Cryptologic Progressive Blackjack

However, despite the many recent hits during the final weeks of May 2011, there are several jackpots that continue to grow. The Cryptologic Progressive Blackjack is at over $80,910 and is available at InterCasino and VIP Casino. The game holding this wealth is called Triple Sevens.

Progressive jackpots are an excellent method of increasing the amount of traffic at a casino. Although there were recently many hits on these progressives, they tend to build a large sum back up quickly. This proves that table game progressives can be just as profitable as slot game jackpots.

Cryptologic’s First Quarter Results Fail to Impress

May 20th, 2011  |  Published in Casino News

Industry-leading online gambling software developer, Cryptologic, recently released their first quarter results. Despite Cryptologic’s pioneering efforts that helped create the online gambling industry, the company has had a bit of a rough patch lately. They have not released a new game since November 2010 when Sushi Express and Naughty Crosses hit the casinos. Some Cryptologic-powered online casinos are popular, therefore, the players are concerned with the company.

The Numbers

In a recent press release directly from Cryptologic, the total revenue increased by 9 percent to $6.0 million compared to $5.5 million in the last quarter of 2010. This revenue is a direct result of their hosted casino and branded games. Furthermore, the total expenses decreased from $0.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2010 to $0.6 million. Industry analysts feel this return to revenue growth is encouraging.

Deployment of Branded Games

The press release also mentioned the deployment of branded games to external online casinos is an area of concern. Only nine branded games were released in the fourth quarter despite the total number of games circulated to licensees being 179. Therefore, Cryptologic is working closely with these casinos to expedite the deployment of these branded slot games.

Supplier Dispute

In a financial report in March 2011, Cryptologic mentioned a dispute with an important supplier of games that led to the termination of their contract. Luckily the two companies have developed a new memorandum of understand and created an agreement that will continue their professional relationship.

Brand Licensor Dispute

The report also states that another dispute with a brand licensor has led to the termination of their agreement. Although complete details were not released and an amicable resolution has not been met, Cryptologic is looking to pursue litigation to protect its company rights.

Expected Updates

In this financial report, the online gambling industry was expecting an updated on the strategic review performed by Deloitte Corporate Finance. Unfortunately, no new information was released. The report specified, “The strategic review is ongoing and further announcements will be made as and when appropriate.” Additionally, online gamers were disappointed that no update was mentioned for Amaya which has improved Cryptologic’s stock.

It appears as if this pioneering online gambling software development company is slowly moving toward profits. Although the world is suffering from a financial crisis, Cryptologic managed to remain in the black which is more than most organizations can say.

Cryptologic Strategic Review

April 1st, 2011  |  Published in Casino News

Industry-leading online gaming software provider, Cryptologic, recently engaged Deloitte to strategically review their company. Deloitte is one of the “Big Four” international financial advisory and consulting firms. No time frame has been indicated by either party.

The Message to the Industry

The statement on Cryptologic’s website reads, “This review is at an early stage and will consider a number of strategic options, including the possibility of an offer being made for the Company or a disposal part of the business. The board wishes to stress that there can be no certainty that any offer will be forthcoming.”

Restructuring Efforts

This news is not surprising to industry analysts as Cryptologic has had some fiduciary trouble for some time. In the summer of 2010, the Board of Directors took drastic measures with response to the eight-figure net losses by the organization. At this point, the CEO resigned and the company underwent a major organizational restructuring process with cost-cutting as the goal.

By shifting Cryptologic’s operations from Cyprus and the U.K. to Malta and cutting 50% of the workforce, the objective was achieved. Many industry analysts believed this was an excellent decision on the road to recovery and the numbers proved to be consistent with this idea.

The Numbers Before and After the Restructure

The restructuring and cost-cutting efforts reduced losses of $20.4 million for 2010 compare to $35.5 million the year before. The quarterly breakdown is even more impressive with the last full quarter prior to the restructuring (Q2) showing a loss of $12.7 million. The first full quarter following the restructuring (Q4) showed a loss of only $0.8 million indicating that Cryptologic was headed back toward recovery.

Announcement of a Strategic Review

A short time after the release of this information, a strategic review was called. This indicated that despite the restructuring efforts, the future of Cryptologic was in jeopardy. Following the announcement of this review, the shareholders were told they would be updated as soon as the board deems an appropriate time to do so. Therefore, even the investors are on the edge of their seats awaiting a response.

Emerging in the mid-1990’s, Cryptologic is one of the pioneering software development companies for online gambling. With the contributions Cryptologic has given toward advancing the online gambling industry to what it is today, if the company is slated to be sold, this will be a sad day for online casino operators.

The Release of New Cuisine-Themed Slot Games

February 16th, 2011  |  Published in Casino News

Different communities across the globe enjoy varying cuisines based on local flora and fauna. Due to the vast migration of communities to urban centers and towns around the world, a diversity of cuisines can be found everywhere. This is consistent with online slot games as well. As a result, some of the most prominent online casino software developers have created cuisine-themed slot games. Some of the most popular games include the following cuisines:

  • Japanese
  • Chinese
  • Indian
  • French

Japanese sushi is a popular style of food across the globe. Therefore, Cryptologic has captured this delicacy in a recently released game entitled “Sushi Express.” The chef, known as Tako, is an octopus that is always moving behind the reels. The symbols found on the reels within the game include, ingredients for Japanese dishes, various sushi dishes and seafood, since the central theme of the game is sushi. During each free spin players pick one symbol for more prizes.

An equally popular cuisine is Chinese. Realtime Gaming escorts players to the “Wok and Roll” Chinese restaurant. The wild symbol within the game is the chef which chops duck during animations. Other symbols include baked fish, Chinese noodles, pancakes, lettuce, shrimp salad, fortune cookies and sauce. There are two free spins rounds: one triggered by the chef symbol and other by the Wok and Roll logo.

Another game, developed by Microgaming, is known as “Curry in a Hurry” and features a food van delivering curry to a man’s residence that is so spicy fire and smoke come out of his ears and mouth. In the bonus game, player’s select three curry plates from the five offered. The player wins payout multipliers based on the number of chilies in the plates selected.

Finally, Rival Gaming has released, “Jacques Pot Gourmet Slot”, a French-themed slot game. The symbols on the reels consist of appliances and ingredients such as cheese, bread, meat and vegetables. The animations are fantastic as they show vegetables being chopped, eggs beaten and salt and pepper sprinkled.

Not only are each of these cuisines delicious, but they make for an excellent slot game. These four games can be found at all of their respective casinos and are slowly becoming more popular as players give the games a try. Two consistencies between the four games are their attention to detail and the excellent animations in the game. Pick one out, stop by a casino and try luck at these delectable games.

An Introduction to Outer Space Slots

January 6th, 2011  |  Published in Gambling Games

Now that the holiday season has passed taking exciting bonuses and promotions along with it, online gaming software providers are looking for ways to entice new players to join their casino while retaining the regulars. One way to accomplish this task is by introducing exciting new games. In 2010, a plethora of themed-slot games were introduced. In 2011, online slot players expect even more exciting games with popular and recognizable themes.

Due to the popularity of science fiction movies and video games, one way to keep the attention of players is the introduction of slot games with an outer space theme. This allows online gaming developers to be tremendously creative by providing exquisite visuals and crisp audio. Add a unique bonus game and you have a winner. There have been many outer space-themed slot games produced by reputable software developers including:

  • Cosmic Quest 1 & 2
  • The Great Galaxy Grab
  • Outta Space Adventure
  • Outta this World

The first game was developed by Rival Gaming and is entitled Cosmic Quest 1 & 2 which is a popular outer space-theme slot game that features rockets, astronauts, ray-guns, space food, satellites and animals with space suits. The highlight of this game is the bonus round aptly named Asteroid-Blasteroid which includes five levels of destroying asteroids.

The second outer space game is the Great Galaxy Grab released by Microgaming in April 2009. As their 400th release, this was one of the first slot games to feature 3D styling. The best aspect is each time a bonus game is activated; the player is transported to a different location in space to complete the challenge. The six locations include a saloon, diner, mall, casino, bank and gas station.

The third game is Outta Space Adventure and was developed by Cryptologic. This is one of many themed games from the Movie Mayhem series that relates to the science fiction genre. The symbols on the reels include, an attractive female pilot, a male hero, a scientist, an asteroid, a spaceship and an alien. The sound and graphics are quite the spectacle.

Finally, Outta this World is an outer space-theme game produced by Realtime Gaming. The symbols on the reels showcase a spacecraft, telescope, laser gun, one-eyed green alien and an image of earth from space. The bonus game allows players to select from ten planets to discover prizes including bonus credits and free spins.

The four previously discussed outer space-theme slot games are all exciting and present different features. Each bonus game is a marvel in itself. Look for each of these games at a casino that using the various developers that create them.
