Online Casino Promotion Classifications

October 7th, 2010  |  Published in Casino Tips

There are two primary categories of promotions found at online casinos. These include,

  • Guaranteed bonuses
  • Chance of bonuses

The guaranteed bonuses are granted with the caveat that the player must complete all requirements which are known prior to deposit. On the other hand, the chance of bonus states that players could potentially win a prize or the bonus, but are not completely assured of doing so.

The guaranteed bonus category is often much smaller compared to the other type of promotion due to the fact that all who fulfill the requirement will be awarded the bonus. Within this category, larger prizes are usually much more rigorous requirements to complete. Those that wager a specific amount can claim a specific bonus.

The second category tends to add much more excitement to the process. Since there are only a few players that can win the prizes, they are usually much larger. Also, winning the prize is a matter of luck so it’s similar to the excitement gained from the lottery. There are numerous promotions based on this category principle. The most typical promotion is offered through online tournaments.

In the tournament variant, those that place near the top on the leader board are granted a piece of the total prize pool. Many of these types of tournaments do not have an entry fee, commonly known as freerolls. Therefore, there is no cost to enter and you can win real money or prizes.

Another promotion within this category is a wagering contest. Once again those that top the lead board share the prize pool. The difference is players advance by wagering the most possible on specific games. In general, these are designed for high rollers due to the large cash wagering requirements.

An additional promotion is called luck draw. Players are given tickets based on the amount they wager. The prizes usually range from exotic vacations to casino credits. This is another promotion that favors high rollers due to the multiple tickets given per wager amount.

Online casino promotions can be an exciting extra offered in addition to the thrill of gambling. The safe method is by far fulfilling the requirements of the guaranteed bonuses. However, the chance of a bonus can be won for free and is often large. Therefore, they are a trade-off of one another. Which is better bet? I’ll let you be the judge.

How to Read Promotional Terms

June 1st, 2010  |  Published in Casino Tips

Anytime you receive a promotion at a casino, whether land based or online, it will come with promotional terms. These terms are often a point of confusion for players, and can lead to losses. Before you dive in to your next promotion, take a moment to learn the common terms associated with these casino gifts, giveaways, or freebies,  it will help you in the long run.

Common Promotional Terms at the Casino

Cashable Bonus

A cashable bonus means a player can withdraw their entire bonus. Say for example, you are given twenty dollars in free play. You then win thirty more dollars off of your free play money. With a cashable bonus you can withdraw both the twenty original dollars and the thirty dollars you earned, for a total of fifty.

Sticky Bonus

A sticky bonus is a non-cashable bonus. For example, if you are given twenty dollars in free play, you can then play any slot machine or table outlined in the promotion with that money but you can not simply walk up to the cashier’s desk and cash the promotional money out. When you play on the free play, if you win more then the original amount, you are only allowed to keep your winnings. The free play money is given back to the house. For example, if you play twenty dollars of free play and win thirty dollars, you will receive thirty dollars total when you cash out. This is a very elusive bonus as many players are unaware of the “sticky” stipulation, and thus, they attempt to walk out with monies that remain tied to the casino.

Eligible Games

Eligible games refers to the games you can play under the promotion. Every promotion will have eligible games listed for their promotions. For example, the promotion may only apply to slot machines. Other promotions may only apply to no-limit poker games. The eligible game rules are often the most misunderstood portion of any promotion, make sure you read through this list carefully before you start playing.
