How to Bet Properly in Wagering Competitions

November 12th, 2010  |  Published in Gambling Games

A common trend at online gaming sites is to earn a promotional bonus through wagering competitions. The amount of money wagered during a specific period of time is tracked so the players with the most amount of money wagered will win the largest share of the prize pool. As a result, many new players are tempted to enter but they must realize there is no guarantee they will place in the shared prize.

The point of joining a casino is to wager (and hopefully win) money. These bets can be placed on games part of a promotion or not. Those games that are part of the promotion tend to become populated quickly. However, it is best not to wager in these competitions blindly as there are always guidelines when placing bets. These typically include:

  • Fixed bankroll
  • Wager the amount set aside for the promotion
  • Enter competitions you are interested in

First, when playing on a fixed bankroll it helps to diminish the situation of problem gambling. There is usually a minimum amount of money that must be bet for the prize pool to be dispersed. Second, wager the amount of money put aside from the specific wagering competition and then stop once depleted. To be successful, do not look at the leader board, and bet additional amounts simply to be added to the prize pool.

Finally, it is important for you to only enter wagering competitions in games that is only appealing to you. For instance, if a player decides to only bet on specific games due to lower house edges, it does not make sense to play a game with a higher house percentage because of a wagering competition. However, if the player enjoys the game with a high house edge, then they should continue to play in their comfort-zone.

When a player selects a game they do not know how to play or they do not enjoy to simply be eligible for a wagering competition, this will become a burden on them and greatly effect the way they play the game.

Wagering competitions can be an exciting addition to gambling at online gaming sites. As more sites add this feature, the result will be a huge increase in new players due to the chance of winning additional money. Wagering competitions produce a great buzz at online gaming sites by continuing to improve the overall player experience and add innovation to a highly competitive industry.

Is Wheel of Fortune Worthy of Your Gaming Dollars?

August 23rd, 2010  |  Published in Gambling Games

There are multiple games available online that offers only a small house edge which in-turn maximizes your winnings over the long run when playing correctly. Wheel of Fortune is not one of those games. Although it is a fun and exciting game with excellent audio and visuals, the house makes big bucks from their edge.

The wheel is comprised of 54 slots, each containing a symbol which indicates the winner if the wheel falls on that symbol. Most wheels contain seven different symbols with the following;

  • $1
  • $2
  • $5
  • $10
  • $20
  • Joker
  • Casino logo

In an online Wheel of Fortune game there are boxes to select the specific symbol you would like to place a wager (online casino interfaces vary). The dollar amounts indicate the monetary value9 you will win if the wheel lands on that slot. The rules of Wheel of Fortune are simple; you place your bet on the symbol (dollar amount) you would like to wager on and the dealer spins the wheel. Wherever it stops, the house pays out according to that dollar amount.

The average payout of hitting the Joker symbol is 40-to-1. This may appear to be a great return on a $1 investment. Unfortunately the odds of hitting are terrible since there is only a single Joker on the wheel. Therefore the odds are 53-to-1 to hit with the casino paying out 40-to-1. The house edge in Wheel of Fortune is 11 to 24 percent.  Some casinos offer a payout of 45-to-1 to hit the Joker symbol. This lowers the house edge a bit but it remains extremely high.

Next time you visit a land-based casino, take notice of how the Wheel of Fortune games are placed near the exit. Since this is a terrible way to make money because of the exorbitant house edge, casinos figure players will make one final Hail-Mary of a wager as they leave, hoping to recoup some of their losses. Usually this ends in even more of a monetary loss.

Although fun and exciting, the casino version of Wheel of Fortune is nothing like the game show. The odds are greatly against the player with poor payouts. Many visitors play this game for a short time due to never winning and losing a large chunk of their bankroll. A word to the wise, try to steer clear of this one unless you want some quick thrills with no payout.

Three Blackjack Tips to Improve Your Game

May 21st, 2010  |  Published in Gambling Games

If you have been to a casino, it is likely you have seen the crowded Blackjack tables. Blackjack is one of the oldest and most popular games at the casino. Playing blackjack well takes a good mixture of skill and luck, which is why blackjack players are always looking to improve their game. While there are several ways of making yourself a better blackjack player in the long run, there are a few things you can do now to improve your game immediately.

Three Ways to Improve Your Blackjack Game

Set Winning Goals

While it is important to manage your bankroll, and divide your bets for maximum playing time, you should also be setting winning goals. A goal is simply a way of knowing when you have achieved what you came to achieve. This is good for two reasons. One, having a winning goal in mind will help give you perspective even when the last few hands have not gone your way. For two, a winning goal will help you know when to quit. If you set a goal and quit when you get there, you are far more likely to walk away from the Blackjack table with cash in hand.

Keep Your Emotions in Check

Proper emotional control is a huge key to successful playing in any gambling game, but this is especially true in Blackjack. Blackjack can be a very intense game. The emotions often run high at the table, the drinks are flowing, and the other players are adding to the confusion. It is easy to slip up and let your emotions get the best of you. This can cause you to run a bet too high or fold when you should not have. Learn to keep your emotions in check and your bankroll will thank you.

Choose Your Table Wisely

If there is more then one blackjack table in the casino, then pick the one you think will be the best fit for you. Study the other players for a few hands. If it seems like the players will disrupt your strategy, go to another table. If you start playing at a table and do not like the vibe, get up and move to the next one. Playing with a dealer or players you do not enjoy can negatively affect your game. Move around until you find a table you like.

Prioritizing Your Online Casino Want List

April 28th, 2010  |  Published in Casino Tips

With literally hundreds of online casinos to choose from, many first-time online gamers can be overwhelmed by their seemingly endless playing options. Some newbies wrongly assume that every online casino is going to offer the same quality experience and make a deposit at the first site they land on. The end result is that many new online players are so disappointed by their first experience that they never play again. Don’t let yourself be a bad casino casualty; the world of online casinos has much to offer if you know where to look. Below we outline a brief guide of what to look for in a good online casino.

Fair and Safe Operations

The most important thing to look for in your future online casino is what’s going on behind the scenes. To protect yourself and your money, you want to choose an online casino that’s got a good reputation with both industry professionals and everyday players. Licensing and auditing information should be openly posted on the site along with affiliations with gambling watchdog groups like eCOGRA.

Good Software

Though casino software gets very little credit among non-technical online gamblers, the truth is that a site’s software controls virtually everything you’ll do and experience at an online casino from the look of the site to the speed of the games.

Satisfying Game Selection

Speaking of games, you want to pick a site that offers what you’re looking for. That seems obvious enough, but if, say, video poker is your preferred game chances are you’re not going to be excited or interested long if the site you choose only has one video poker title. Check out a site’s game selection on their game preview page or in free mode prior to depositing to ensure that they have enough variety and action to keep you happy long-term.

A Site Design You Like

While site design shouldn’t be your first priority, it can greatly affect how much you enjoy and appreciate your selected casino long-term. Before you even play, you want to find an online casino that you can navigate comfortably and whose site offers you all the information that you need. You also want to choose a casino with game tables that you’d be happy to look at through the many hours included in your future sessions.

Promotions That Keep You Coming Back

Many beginners make bonus size their key criteria, and the end result is that they have a big bankroll at a casino they don’t even want to play at. Bonuses are important, but they shouldn’t be key in determining where you play if you plan to play regularly. If you find a casino that fills all the other above criteria and also has a bonus that excites you, then that’s just the icing on the cake.

How to Spend Your Money Wisely in an Online Casino

March 17th, 2010  |  Published in Inrodution

Managing your bankroll and making smart choices in game play is just as important in an online casino as it is in a brick and mortar casino. It may even be more important to keep a watchful eye on how you spend your money in an online casino as it is common for players to get carried away and spend too much too quickly while playing online. Follow the tips for wise spending in an online casino and you will see a much better outcome on your next virtual trip.

How to Spend Your Money Wisely and Bet Smart in an Online Casino

Determine How Much You Want to Spend

The first thing you should do upon entering an online casino is to determine how much money you want to spend during your virtual visit. Most online casinos link your casino spending account to your credit card or bank account. The combination of high limit credit cards and virtual spending could lead to big trouble if you do not plan ahead. Set aside a maximum amount you will spend before you start playing.

Divide Your Bankroll Based on How Long You Want to Play

The next thing you should do is to divide your bankroll. Decide on how long you want to stay in the online casino, or how many games you want to play, or how many hands of poker you want to join in on. Just get a basic idea of how much you plan on playing and then divide your bankroll up so you can stay in the game winning or loosing. Remember that if you blow your whole bankroll on one roll or one hand, you’ll either be out of the game if you loose or dipping farther in to your credit card balance then you intended.

Play Multiple Games at Multiple Tables

Online casinos are big, often bigger then brick and mortar casinos. Why spend your entire bankroll at one poker table? With the inclusion of so many tables, and so many variety of games, you will improve your odds by bouncing around. Visit a few different games. If you only game to play one game, then visit more then one table offering that game. However you do it, mix it up to ensure you find the table or the game with the best odds of winning.

The Downside of the Martingale Betting System

February 16th, 2010  |  Published in Gambling Games

Many gambling players over the years have tried to use a system for betting. Most people believe these systems are a sure-fire way to beat the house edge and walk away from the casino with cash in hand. Truth be told, sometimes they work, but any wins you gain from using a betting system were simply luck and not the system. In fact, betting systems do more harm then good and can quickly zap a player’s bankroll.

What is the Martingale Betting System?

The Martingale betting system is a system of playing on your losses in the hopes of turning them around. Simply put, you place an even bet on the table, you lose the round. On the next round, you double your bet. Then you keep doubling your bet every time until you win. For example, you place a two-dollar bet on black at the blackjack table. You lose the bet. The next round you place a four-dollar bet on black at the blackjack table. You lose that bet as well. The third round you place an eight-dollar bet on black at the blackjack table and so on until you win.

The Downsides to the Martingale Betting System

Unfortunately, there are many downsides to the martingale betting system. For one, most casinos have a betting maximum limit set on their betting tables. It will not take too many rounds before you have exceeded this limit and cannot continue using the Martingale betting system. For two, the system only works with even line bets. This limits your betting options at the table. Finally, the Martingale system will only benefit you if you quickly turn your losses into a win. If you lose several hands in a row, you can be down hundreds of dollars before you turn it around, and that is only if you win a hand before you reach the house’s maximum betting rules.

The best betting system is to bet smart. Every time you gamble, start with a set bankroll. Divide that bankroll in to equal bets that will allow you to stay at the table for as long as you plan on playing. Once you get to the table, start with small bets. This will allow you to build a bankroll and keep playing, something the Martingale system does not allow. Playing smart will better your odds of walking away with cash in hand.
